Duncan Matthews QC appointed to the LCIA Board of Directors

Members of 20 Essex Street are pleased to congratulate Duncan Matthews QC on his election to the LCIA Board of Directors.

Duncan is Co-Head of Chambers at 20 Essex Street and leads the management of Chambers in London and Singapore. From the outset of his 32 years in legal practice, he has maintained a dynamic international commercial arbitration practice both as counsel and as arbitrator. He has particular expertise in complex international commercial arbitrations and related court proceedings and ADR in a broad range of sectors including: commodities; oil and gas; infrastructure; power; insurance; manufacturing and distributorship, telecommunications and transport and complex financial services and shareholders disputes.

Duncan is regularly instructed as lead counsel for clients across the globe in arbitrations under ARIAS (UK), ICC, HKIAC, LCIA, LMAA, SIAC, UNCITRAL rules and “ad hoc” submissions. He has been appointed as sole, co-arbitrator and chairman of arbitrations under these and other institutional rules as well as ad hoc.

Duncan is a published writer and speaker on international arbitration. Recent talks include: Best practice in infrastructure arbitrations: One Belt, One Road (CDR Spring Arbitration Symposium 2018); Belt and Road Investment Disputes: The International Legal landscape for Chinese Investors and Counterparties (HKIAC 2018); Do arbitrators make international law?
