Reyes v Al Malki

The Supreme Court has handed down an important judgment on the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, as incorporated into English law by the 1964 Diplomatic Privileges Act. The judgment considers the scope of a diplomat’s immunity to employment claims, international law on human trafficking, the scope of residual immunity when a diplomat ends his/her posting, and the principles that govern service of proceedings on a diplomat.

Sir Daniel Bethlehem QC and Sudhanshu Swaroop QC (instructed by RPC LLP) acted for the Respondents/Cross-Apellants.

Philippa Webb (instructed by Deighton Pierce Glynn) acted for the first intervener, Kalayaan.
