| The work |
You will be working with barristers at the top of their profession in a highly successful and friendly set at the cutting edge of commercial, EU, shipping and public international law. Increasingly we act in public law cases, particularly human rights. |
| The year |
We treat our pupils well and it is our aim to give them the best possible training, including advocacy exercises with detailed feedback, to succeed at the Bar. Read about two of our junior tenants' pupillage year. |
| The hours |
We expect you to work hard during the normal working week, but will not allow you to work late, at weekends, or to take work home. Such matters are set out in our pupilage policy. |
| Pupils |
Up to 4 twelve month pupillages commencing Autumn 2013. One deferred pupillage to start Autumn 2014. |
| Retention |
In the last three years, more than 70% of our pupils have gone on to become tenants. We believe those are far better odds than many of our competitors. We will never tell a pupil that they are good enough but that they will not be offered a tenancy because there is no space in chambers or that in a less competative year they would have been taken on. |
| Travel |
Right from the start of tenancy there is the option to travel worldwide, from Hong Kong to Washington, and Oslo to Bermuda. We also have an annexe in Singapore. |
| Other Types Of Application |
2nd/3rd Sixes: We occasionally offer second and third sixes. Opportunities are advertised via the central pupillage website & the Bar Council third six vacancies website. Applications are via CV and covering letter to the Pupillage Secretary. Applications are treated in the strictest confidence. |
| Exemptions |
We also consider applications outside the Pupillage Portal scheme from the narrow groups of candidates who are exempt in whole or part from the normal requirements. The award will be determined in each case and, where appropriate, Chambers will apply for a waiver of the funding requirement. |
