Michael J Moser, well-known international arbitrator and China specialist, has joined 20 Essex Street Chambers as an arbitrator member, it was announced today.
Moser, who currently serves as Chairman of the Hong Kong International Centre (HKIAC), has practised as arbitrator and counsel for more than 30 years in Asia. He was formerly China Managing Partner for Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.Moser is a Court Member of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) and a Board Member of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC). He also serves as a Commission Member of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) in Beijing and was the first foreign national to be appointed an arbitrator in China.Moser has acted as arbitrator in hundreds of cases in both ad hoc proceedings and under all of the major institutional rules. Recent cases involve European and US-based multinationals and entities from China, Mongolia, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia, India and the Middle East.Moser was educated at Harvard University (JD) and Columbia University (MPhil and PhD). He is the author of many books and articles and serves as Editor of the Journal of International Arbitration.In announcing Moser's appointment, Iain Milligan QC, head of chambers said:“I am privileged to welcome on behalf of Chambers such a distinguished and experienced international practitioner to Chambers’ stable of independent arbitrators.”
