20 Essex Street shortlisted at Chambers UK Bar Awards 2017

It is with great pleasure that 20 Essex Street can announce it has been shortlisted for both Shipping and International Arbitration Set of the year as well as receiving individual shortlistings for Henry Byam-Cook as Shipping Junior of the Year and Tony Beswetherick for Company/Insolvency Junior of the year at the Chambers UK Bar Awards 2017.

The Chambers UK Bar Awards 2017 nominations are in recognition of the work undertaken by members of 20 Essex Street which continues to place the set at the forefront of shipping law and international arbitration. Amongst many notable shipping cases, Henry has recently appeared a number of times in the Court of Appeal on his own in cases involving novel points about demurrage clauses and the incorporation of jurisdiction agreements into bills of lading. He also regularly acts in LMAA arbitrations, often in disputes turning on detailed technical expert issues. Other recent notable work, in terms of international arbitration, conducted by members of 20 Essex Street include a multi-billion dollar oil pollution case "The Prestige". Tony’s nomination comes on the back of his insolvency and restructuring practice which often involves cases with a cross-border element and a fraud dimension, as seen in the African Minerals Ltd $120 million claim where he was led by Stephen Atherton QC and worked alongside Hong Kong counsel in defending an application in Hong Kong to prevent the sale of the shares in the owner of an iron ore mine in Sierra Leone.
